Our World War 2 topic has been full of exploration and wonder. Mrs Wesley is lucky enough to know a friend who is a collector of genuine historical artefacts. One of his favourite eras is WW2 and he was overjoyed to lend us some of them. We were able to handle them, smell them and even wear some of the items. We were amazed at how heavy some were and really couldn’t imagine how soldiers managed to go into battle carrying so much gear and holding such a heavy rifle!
We have learnt so much this half term. A big thank you has to go to all the families that have allowed special photographs, medals, ration books, gas masks and letters to be brought into school. It really has given a sense of reality to this emotive topic and has created some very inquisitive historians in year 5.
