Digestive System Model Making

Yesterday, the Year 4s participated in a disgusting science lesson, creating working models of a digestive system. They used a plastic bag to represent the stomach, added orange juice (stomach acid), water (saliva) and a cream cracker and banana (food to be digestated). After mushing it up for a few minutes, they passed it through a stocking that represented the small intestine and made sure to squeeze all the liquid nutrients out. They then passed it trough a paper cup which represented the large intestine and finally out of the bottom of the cup as waste. The children thoroughly enjoyed the model making but were also a little grossed out!
