Cross Country at Black Park on Thursday 16th January 2020 MOB event

So our third cross country competition will take place at Black Park, near Slough SL3 6DS on Thursday 16th January 2020.

Here are the details for the race.

Directions:

The Black Park website is https://countryparks.buckscc.gov.uk/black-park/for further details. The post code is SL3 6DS.

  •  Take the M40 to the Denham roundabout.
  •  From there take the A412 towards Slough.
  •  At Iver Heath you will come to a large roundabout (3rd one along the road) with the Crooked Billet on the left and Pinewood Studios off to the right.
  • Carry on the A412 – this is now dual carriageway with Black Park on the right hand side.

Please ignore the left turn to Langley Country Park. Take the next turning on the right signed Wexham Street. The turning is beyond a R.H bend so prepare for turning right by getting over to the outside lane. The car park is a short distance along on the right hand side beyond the park ranger’s office turn.

Car parking:

There is parking for 250 cars+ but as this is a MOB event parking is restricted. Please be aware it’s a pay-and-display car park. Please see https://countryparks.buckscc.gov.uk/parking/ for more information.

Toilets:

These are located at the entrance of the car park (near the cafe hut) and will be open on the day, additional facilities will also be available near the start area on the other side of the lake at the other cafe.  Toilets are minimal though.

Race Assembly Area:

From the Car Park proceed straight ahead through the park gates past the small cafe on the right, follow the signs and keep the lake on your right hand side keep going until you get to an opening.  This will be used as the meeting point and where the Start/Finish will be located.  (Please note this is approx. 5 minute walk). If you walk around the lake and find yourself near the large café/ play area walk past the play area and continue along the path until you reach the large green space – red and white barrier tape will indicate the start and finish here.

  • We will aim to walk the course with the children from 1.45pm

Race Order:  

First Race yr 3 & 4 girls – 3.00pm

Second Race yr 3 & 4 boys – 3.15pm

Third race   yr 5/6 girls – 3.30pm

Fourth race Yr 5/6 boys -3.45pm

Distance:

Yr 3 & 4 map: Approx 1.76km

Yr 5/6 map:  Approx 2.25km

We are leaving at the earlier time of 1pm as it is a way to the venue and we would like to walk the course. Children will be collecting their tops from us at playtime on Thursday and will be able to eat their lunch straight away ready to leave at 1pm. Due to it still being lunchtime for some of our children we cannot go out through the usual door. Please collect your child from the sports hall door.

We provide children with a running top for this event. Please ensure your child has sufficient clothing for the weather on the day. The children can be waiting a while for their race and can get cold. You may also want to provide a snack and extra drink for them.

When you arrive at the venue look out for the Keep Hatch flag and please let us know you have arrived. If we are not at the flag we will be walking the course. Please stay by the flag. Unfortunately parents are not allowed to walk the course with us or come with us to the briefing but please stay to cheer us on.

Marshal

We need to provide 2 marshals for this event. Please make yourself known to members of staff if you are able to marshal the course. We also need support in supervising the children. Please let us know if you are able to do this too.

If your child needs the toilet please let a member of staff know as their race maybe coming up and we need to know where children are at all times.

This is a MOB event which means division 2 will also be in attendance with division 1. This makes it a very big event with lots of children and schools! Please ensure your child stays by the school flag and with members of staff when they are not racing.

When your child’s race is over you are welcome to take them home but please remember to sign them out with a member of staff.
